Thefts from vehicles down sharply in late August, police data shows

Fewer thefts in late August

Nearly 30 thefts from vehicles were reported each week for the first three weeks of August, according to data from Kamloops RCMP.

From Aug. 23 to Aug. 29, four thefts from motor vehicles were reported in North Kamloops. One theft occurred while the vehicle was parked on Fortune Drive, and three thefts occurred while cars were located near Eighth Street and Halston Avenue.

Three such thefts were reported from the downtown and Sagebrush neighbourhoods, and another three thefts happened while vehicles were parked in the Sahali area.

One theft was reported in Valleyview, and another in Dallas.

In the last week of August, 15 bicycles were reported stolen, an increase of five from the week before.

One bicycle was reported stolen from Brocklehurst, another from McArthur Island, one from Eighth Street and Tranquille Road, and another was taken from a location near Overlanders Bridge.

Two bikes were taken from downtown, along Third Avenue.

Two more bikes were taken from along Columbia Street West, and two were reported stolen from Thompson Rivers University.

Another pair of bicycles were reported stolen from Valleyview.

In total, there were 100 thefts from motor vehicles and 48 bicycles reported stolen in the month of August.
