Police evacuate floor of hotel following report of man sleeping with rifle

Gun report clears hotel floor

A floor of an Aberdeen hotel was evacuated over the weekend and a gun was seized after police received a report of a guest sleeping with a rifle in his bed.

On Saturday afternoon just before 3:30 p.m., Mounties received a report of a man sleeping with a long gun in a hotel in the 1200-block of Rogers Way.

“Police attended and evacuated the third floor of the hotel, then entered the room and safely retrieved the firearm,” RCMP Const. Crystal Evelyn said in a news release.

A Merritt man was arrested for firearms offences and released with a court date pending the outcome of the investigation.
