Seven-year sentence for Kamloops man who admitted role in 2018 slaying

Seven years for gang slaying

A Kamloops man has been ordered to spend seven years in federal prison for his part in the gang-related slaying of a city man in 2018.

Darian Rohel, 47, pleaded guilty in B.C. Supreme Court on Wednesday to one count of manslaughter in connection with the Oct. 1, 2018, death of Troy Gold.

The remains of Gold, 35, were found in the Lac du Bois area north of Kamloops weeks after he was reported missing.

Rohel was one of five men arrested and charged with Gold’s murder. His charge was reduced to manslaughter last year.

Both Rohel and Gold were drug dealers, court heard. Details of Rohel’s role in Gold’s death cannot be made public because his co-accused are slated to stand trial in the coming months.

Rohel is currently serving a 3.5-year sentence in a federal prison for an unrelated conviction for possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Gold’s murder was the first in a series of bloody gang-related incidents in Kamloops spanning a five-month period in late 2018 and early 2019 that saw four people slain and others injured.

Kamloops RCMP Supt. Syd Lecky has described the investigation into Gold’s death as the most complex ever undertaken by police in the city.

John Daviss and Sean Scurt are scheduled to stand trial in October, while Nathan Townsend and Jayden Eustache are expected in court in January.
