North Kamloops Tim Hortons closes its doors — maybe forever — due to crime in area

Crime shutters Tim Hortons

A Tim Hortons in North Kamloops has closed its doors due to crime in the area — and it might never reopen.

The Tim Hortons at 481 Tranquille Rd. Has been shuttered since the weekend, when an incident is alleged to have seen a man armed with a knife storm behind the counter and dump milk on his face.

That was the straw that broke the back of the restaurant’s owner, according to North Shore Business Improvement Association head Jeremy Heighton.

“I don’t really know if they’re going to reopen or not,” Heighton told Castanet Kamloops on Tuesday.

“I’m waiting to hear back from the owner. At this point, they are closed for the time being.”

Heighton said the restaurant has been having a rough go of it in recent months, targeted by vandals on multiple occasions.

“They’ve had eight windows broken over the last year at that site,” he said.

“They’ve had a lot of issues of people on substances, overdoses. There have been some serious issues.”

This story will be updated if more information becomes known. Castanet is waiting to hear back from Kamloops Mounties.
