Rappel crews on scene fighting George Road wildfire, with no new growth reported by BC Wildfire Service

Crews attack Lytton wildfire

BC Wildfire Service is reporting no new growth for the George Road wildfire, with crews continuing to have “good success” despite soaring temperatures.

According to an update posted Wednesday, BC Wildfire Service said two specialized attack crews had evaluated parts of the fire previously inaccessible to firefighters, determining if they could get to those areas by rappelling from helicopters.

“It was determined that they could safely access and work in those areas and are beginning that work today,” the BCWS said.

The fire, estimated at 350 hectares in size, is still classified as out of control. It is burning seven kilometres south of Lytton.

On Wednesday, the BCWS said there are 48 firefighters on scene, with one water tender and one piece of heavy equipment.

Four helicopters are supporting the ground crew in their efforts to fight the blaze.
