BC Wildfire Service firefighters battling small blaze near Inks Lake turnoff on Highway 5, south of Kamloops

Fire burning just off Coq

The white smoke that was billowing from the forest south of Kamloops earlier on Friday afternoon is no longer visible from the Coquihalla.

It's unknown if the fire has been put out, but BC Wildfire Service responded to the blaze about six kilometres southwest of Kamloops after being called at around 1:30 p.m.

Drivers on the Coquihalla can see white smoke rising from the forest south of Kamloops on Friday afternoon as firefighters work to contain a small wildfire.

The BC Wildfire Service is responding to a fire about six kilometres southwest of Kamloops, near the Inks Lake interchange. Crews were called at about 1:30 p.m.

The fire is estimated to be half a hectare in size and is very visible from Highway 5.

Currently there are 23 BC Wildfire Service personnel on site, being assisted by Kamloops Fire Rescue crews.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
