Kamloops' Team Brown set to represent B.C. at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts

Team Brown in the bubble

Kamloops' Team Brown arrived in the Calgary curling bubble this week ahead of Draw 1 at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts and found things much different this time around.

Representing B.C. at the Scotties for the second year in a row, the Kamloops Curling Centre rink arrived to a secure venue with cardboard fans and restrictions galore.

Such is life during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"It's a lot of time being spent in our hotel rooms, we each have our own," B.C. second Dezaray Hawes told Castanet Kamloops.

"So, it's a lot different than last year — night and day, really."

The team has undergone numerous rounds of COVID-19 testing in in addition to staying isolated in their individual rooms. They are not even allowed to hang out in person until their final tests have been completed on Saturday.

"We are allowed to head down and watch the draws," skip Corry Brown said.

"Though we have to sit separate — not a soul in talking distance."

B.C. plays its first game (Draw 4) against Quebec at 5:30 p.m. B.C. time on Saturday.
