For the second time in as many days, a regional air carrier has unveiled plans for passenger flights between Kamloops and Vancouver — a route soon to be abandoned by Air Canada.
Pacific Coastal Airlines announced Wednesday it will operate flights from Fulton Field to YVR six days a week beginning on Feb. 9.
“We want to ensure that the community of Kamloops maintains air service to Vancouver to support the movement of essential workers, time sensitive cargo, and assist those travelling for medical appointments at this time,” Jonathan Richardson, vice-president of commercial services for Pacific Coastal, said in a news release.
Pacific Coastal’s flights will run on a 19-passenger Beech 1900D.
The airline’s announcement comes one day after Central Mountain Air announced it would begin service between Kamloops and Vancouver on a twice-weekly basis beginning Feb. 3.
Last week, Air Canada announced it was suspending its operations at Kamloops Airport indefinitely, citing financial difficulty brought about by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The airline had been the only carrier offering passenger flights between Kamloops and Vancouver.
Air Canada’s service is slated to cease on Jan. 23.
