Kamloops RCMP are asking for help locating a suspect in a retail store theft

Search for suspect

Kamloops RCMP are asking the public to help identify a suspect involved in a retail store theft.

Around 8 p.m. on Jan. 7, police received a report of a theft at a business on the 1000-block of Hillside Drive. A man reportedly left the store through an emergency exit with products he did not pay for.

When staff tried to stop him, police said, he flashed what looked like a firearm.

RCMP said they responded with the help of the police-dog unit, locating and detaining three people who were later released, as they did not fit the description of the suspect.

The suspect is described as a caucasian male, standing approximately five-foot-seven, weighing roughly 180 pounds with neck tattoos. He was wearing blue jeans, a black hoodie and a red bandana on his face.

The police are continuing to investigate this incident.

The RCMP's crime prevention unit is working with local business to help prevent these types of crimes, offering support to local businesses and inviting them to join the business watch program.

The program is a partnership between the City of Kamloops, the RCMP and local businesses to increase security and safety while helping to prevent crime. Some services include tips on prevention, a site visit and information on what to provide police for a more successful investigation if crime occurs.

Police are asking those with information about the theft to contact the Kamloops RCMP non-emergency line at 250-828-3000.

RCMP recommend that businesses hoping to discuss crime prevention tips call 250-828-3223, or visit kamloops.ca/crimeprevention.
