One Kamloops woman received one of the most sought-after jabs today.
Kelsey Medhurst is the first person in Kamloops to be vaccinated against COVID-19, with the Pfizer-BioNTech shot.
“In Kamloops, we have worked so hard, especially in long-term care, to stop the spread of COVID-19,” she says in a press release from Interior Health (IH). “Having this vaccine available will help protect the most vulnerable loved ones in our lives and I encourage everyone to get one.”
The vaccine is being given to long-term care staff and physicians first, in accordance to the province's program.
A health-care aide in Kelowna, Charmane Lazzarotto, was the first person in the Okanagan to get the vaccine.
The roll-out will be gradual, IH says.
In the meantime, the public needs to continue practicing physical distancing, good hand hygiene, keeping to their household bubbles and staying home if sick.
