Two isolated positive COVID-19 cases were reported from the New Afton Mine

COVID cases at Afton Mine

The New Afton Mine near Kamloops has had one employee and one contractor test positive for COVID-19, according to a release sent from the company on Saturday (Nov. 28). 

The company stated they were made aware of the two isolated positive results on the evening of Nov. 27 and morning of Nov. 28 regarding the unnamed individuals. 

The affected individuals are not on site and are self-isolating, adding that they will not be sharing further information regarding either individual in order to protect their privacy. All employees were notified of the cases.

Their Emergency Response personnel had started their confirmed case procedure which includes a thorough investigation, contact tracing by trained employees and rigorous sanitization by a Mine Rescue HAZMAT team of all affected areas using a disinfectant fogger system. 

Investigations have been completed and all direct contacts have been notified and are self-isolating for 14 days. 

At this time, site access remains as usual with existing preventative measures and daily operations have not been impacted.
