An overnight fire in Clearwater damages Dutch Lake Community Centre

Fire at community centre

An overnight fire on Saturday (Nov. 28) has left the Dutch Lake Community Centre in Clearwater damaged.

Clearwater Mayor Merlin Blackwell posted it to Twitter around 6:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

"The Clearwater Fire Department responded to a fire early this morning at the Dutch Lake Community Centre. At this point, it appears they have been able to contain the fire to the external boiler and heating system, at to a small corner of the Gym," the post says.

The building is home to Clearwater's City Hall and services under the Yellow Head Community Services.

This building houses The District of Clearwater offices aka City Hall and some programs through Yellowhead Community Services. The mayor's post adds that no damage to any offices was reported.

"Regular services will be open as usual Monday. Obviously today’s Farmers Market is cancelled," Blackwell says in the post.

He also thanked emergency crews for their help.

Castanet has contacted Clearwater Fire Hall and will update the story when more information becomes available.
