This Kamloops locksmith will open hot cars with children, animals inside free of charge

Ray Dhaliwal, owner at Brown's Locksmith in downtown Kamloops, wants people to call him if they see children or animals locked in hot cars.

Dhaliwal saw posts on Facebook from local community members saying they would smash or vandalize any cars they found with animals or children locked inside on a hot day.

"I fully offered my service at no charge to the community. We all have to work together. If someone is in distress, and if they call me, I'll come there and unlock that vehicle and get the animal or the child out free of charge," Dhaliwal tells Castanet.

According to RCMP, anyone opening a vehicle without the owner's consent can face charges, but Dhaliwal says he's willing to take that risk if it's going to save a life.

If you see a child or animal inside a vehicle in distress, call 911 first and immediately.
