Application coming to Kamloops council to add 77-unit apartment to Victoria Street West

77 new units on Victoria W.

A 77-unit apartment is being pitched for a part of the former Mission Hill project.

The project would see a five-storey multi-family building constructed on the land southwest of the structure currently being built at 945 Victoria Street West., according to a report coming to Kamloops council this week.

Originally, five buildings were proposed at the site in 2008, but the project has changed parameters and proponents since then. One 54-unit apartment has been completed, and construction recently resumed on a second with 89 units.

The proposed building would see 19 units on the ground floor, 20 each on the second and third and then 18 units along with an amenities room and rooftop patio on the top floor.

A traffic assessment was done when the original project was approved, which expected a total build out of 220 units for the site. The proposed building with its 77 units would match that.

Traffic would be able to exit downhill on to Victoria Street West via a private road, or uphill onto Hudson's Bay Trail into the West End neighbourhood.

The new proposal includes new parking spaces for one of the other buildings, due to a previous covenant.

City administration is recommending Kamloops council approve the development permit which would allow the project to move forward.
