RCMP issue correction: child involved in crash in 'grave condition'

Child in 'grave condition'

The Kamloops RCMP has issued a correction to a news release it distributed Monday announcing the deaths of a man and two children in a crash on Highway 5A.

Mounties previously reported that a 47-year-old man and two children aged five and eight died in a single-vehicle crash Sunday evening near Stump Lake.

“After further confirmation from health officials, one of the children (age five years old) is in grave condition in hospital in Vancouver,” said Cpl. Jodi Shelkie.

“Out of respect for privacy of the family, no further information regarding the child's private medical status will be shared publicly.”

All the victims in the crash were from Southern Alberta.

The highway was closed until about 1 a.m. Monday to allow police and the BC Coroners Service to investigate.
