Disabled Kamloops woman's mobility scooter stolen, trashed

Scooter stolen, trashed

A Kamloops woman is looking to raise $2,500 to help repair or replace her mom's medical scooter, which was stolen last month.

Amanda Seidel says the scooter was taken Dec. 29, from underneath her mother's apartment deck on Fortune Drive.

It was returned a few weeks later with the seat missing, and it wouldn't start.

Seidel says her mom, June, uses it for "everything."

"To go to the doctor, to go to the grocery store... that's her independence. She uses it to come visit my kids."

June has had three strokes and is blind in one eye. If she walks with a cane, it can't be for more than five minutes.

"She has to be with someone at all times if she's walking," says Seidel.

Seidel and her brother are fetching their mother groceries or taking her to appointments.

The family has started a GoFundMe to buy a new scooter as June isn't eligible for coverage on a new one until 2021.
