Kamloops woman in Edmonton hospital after moose collision

Moose demolishes car

A Kamloops woman is recovering in an Edmonton hospital after a collision with a moose.

Tara Bouvette, 25, was driving to Edmonton on Friday when her vehicle collided with the moose outside Stony Plain.

The friends she was coming to visit were tracking her on the Find My Friends app and noticed she had stopped.

"She wasn't answering her phone, so they drove out there and ended up seeing basically pieces of her car and the moose on the side of the road," says Bouvette's brother, Chris. "It was kind of dusk, so we're not sure exactly what happened, but kind of the way she drove off into the field, it looks like she swerved."

Bouvette was rushed to University of Alberta Hospital with multiple fractures to her cheekbones and a fracture at the base of her skull.

"It seems like the moose just took the roof off and that's about it. Her friends went to the car and they were able to open the doors and everything," said Chris, who started a GoFundMe page to help with flights and accommodation so the family can be by Tara's side.

He says Bouvette is no longer intubated, and doctors will decide in the next day or two if Bouvette will need metal plates in her face.
