Traffic flowing again on Hwy 5 between Kamloops and Merritt

Coquihalla reopened

UDPATE 10:15 p.m.

DriveBC reports the Coquihalla has now reopened in both directions.

A lane closure remains in place northbound between Chuwhels Mountain Road and Inks Lake Road. Motorists are being advised to expect delays due to congestion.

ORIGINAL 7:05 p.m.

A stretch of the Coquihalla between Kamloops and Merritt has been completely shut down.

Highway 5 northbound, just North of Merritt closed due to bad driving conditions.

A viewer states about seven to eight semi jackknifed trucks have slipped off the road.

The top of the Summit is covered in slick ice.

Southbound is still open but trucks are spinning out of control and struggling to make it up the hill.

Traffic looks to be completely jammed up and roads are unsafe just 10 kilometres south of Kamloops.
