Dump fire knocked down

UPDATE: 6:40 a.m.

Firefighters knocked down the fire at the Mission Flats Landfill in Kamloops Tuesday night.

Platoon Capt. Jim Gorman says the blaze got to the size of 50x150 feet.

"It wasn't very deep-seated," he says, noting a cause hasn't been determined yet. 

"We have one crew standing by on site while dump personnel mop it up," he said Tuesday night.

Kamloops Fire Rescue is en route to a fire near the city dump.

Platoon Capt. Jim Gorman says he'll have more information shortly, once crews arrive on scene. The exact location of the blaze and its size is unclear at the moment.

Gorman says two units are responding.
