Second gov't pot store open

It happened with much less pomp and circumstance than the first one, but the Kamloops' second government cannabis store has opened at the Northills Shopping Centre.

The small store opened Wednesday, says Viviana Zanocco, communications manager for the B.C. Liquor Distribution Branch.

The new store on Fortune Drive is 2,600 square feet in size. Inside it's organized much like the first store in Sahali, only smaller.

"The staff is made up of 17 full- and part-time employees, each of whom has received extensive training concentrating on social responsibility practices related to safety and responsible adult use, comprehensive product knowledge and customer service skills," she adds in an email.

A third government store that has received approval from the city is due to open before the end of the year, Zanocco says.

Plans are in motion for other government stores to open before Sept. 30, she says, including branches in Courtenay, Port Alberni, Terrace, Cranbrook and Campbell River. More than a dozen stores have been approved by the City of Kamloops, but are awaiting provincial approval.
