Film doc on disappearance

A documentary telling the story of Ryan Shtuka's disappearance from Sun Peaks in February 2018, will soon be on the big screen.

Made as part of the Telus Storyhive competition, Kamloops trio Jared Featherstone, Russell Walton, and Allan McVicar joined to form Past 11 Productions and make the 20-minute film, Peaks and Valleys.

"The whole aim from the very start was just keeping Ryan's story alive," Featherstone says. "This is another way to keep people reminded of him."

The film, which features interviews with the Shtuka family, has already been viewed by Ryan's mother and some members of the family, but July 15 will be its premiere at the Paramount Theatre.

Donations to Kamloops Search and Rescue will be accepted at the film.

"It's going to be free admission, first-come-first-served," Featherstone says.

With so many uncertainties in Shtuka's disappearance still, Featherstone says some facts still remain to be seen, but he's satisfied with the story told.

"We're all Kamloops born and raised," he says. "We've spent time at Sun Peaks just like Ryan was, right around the age Ryan was.... It struck a chord with us."
