Can you handle Reubinator?

The Reubinator has claimed another victim.

Randy Santel, who has won more than 740 food challenges worldwide (a record), couldn't quite down the Reubinator at Reubin's Diner in Kamloops. The 32-year-old from St. Louisfell short of finishing the eight-pound sandwich, piled high with five types of pork, in one hour on Sunday.

"There's absolutely no chance of me fitting all that in with just two minutes," he told the crowd who gathered to watch at the 58-minute mark. A pile of pulled pork and a few slices of bread were still on the huge silver platter.

The challenge was one of a group Santel, who completes food challenges and runs a food challenge website, attempted on a trip to B.C.

The night before, he polished off a massive burger in Surrey. In hindsight, he notes it probably wasn't a great plan to do the challenges back-to-back.

"I need to take a break, but when you put it on the schedule and everybody gets excited about it, you don't want to disappoint everybody," he said. "I'd rather fail the challenge and get to meet everybody than just quit and not do it at all."

It was the big man's first trip to Kamloops, though he's beaten challenges in 32 countries since he started in 2010.

"That's one of the cool things about doing all these food challenges, is I've probably been to 400 cities that I'd have never gone to if it wasn't for their food challenge," he says.

Mike Ward, owner of Reubin's Diner, says the massive sandwich has defeated many local bellies.
