Robbery suspect nabbed

Kamloops RCMP have one man in custody after an armed robbery and are looking for a second.

Cpl. Jodi Shelkie said on April 19 at 3:15 a.m., a man was walking by himself near St. Paul Street and First Avenue, when two men approached him, one was brandishing a knife.

“They demanded his wallet and cell phone which he gave to them. Within 40 minutes of the robbery, a credit card that was inside of the victim’s wallet was used to withdraw $800 from ATM machines,” said Shelkie.

Surveillance video showed a suspect using the card at an ATM machine. A few days later the suspect was identified but not located. On May 6th, the suspect was arrested.

Mikael Wayne Stewart, 21, has been charged with robbery and using a stolen credit card.

He was previously known to police.

The other suspect has not been identified.

“At this time, there is no indication that this suspect is related to any other robbery that has occurred in Kamloops over the past few months,” said Shelkie.

Anyone with information on the second suspect in this robbery is urged to contact Kamloops RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
