Fire in boarded up home

A passing police officer noticed a house fire early Tuesday and alerted firefighters in Kamloops.

The officer noticed smoke and flames coming from a vacant home on the 100 block of Wilson Street.

The building had been boarded up after a fire in 2018 damaged most of its interior.

RCMP Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says the cause of the fire is unknown at this time, but it is possible that squatters had gained entrance.

There was no indication that anyone was inside during the fire, however.

Kamloops Fire Rescue and RCMP are investigating the blaze.
