5 teens hurt in rollover

A carload of teens were lucky to escape a rollover with non-life-threatening injuries.

Kamloops RCMP Cpl. Jodi Shelkie said speed is believed to be a factor in the crash of an SUV with five teen-aged occupants Thursday morning.

At 11:45 a.m., police responded to a single-vehicle collision on Tranquille Road, east of the turnoff to Tranquille Farms.

“The SUV was travelling eastbound, towards Kamloops, when the driver failed to negotiate a corner and the vehicle went into the ditch, rolling several times,” said Shelkie. “There were five teenagers in the vehicle, four were able to exit the vehicle on their own, one had to be extracted by Kamloops Fire Rescue.”

All occupants went to a local medical facility to be assessed. The injuries are non-life-threatening.

Shelkie did not say if charges are expected in the crash.
