Can't escape the law

It took more than two years, but Kamloops RCMP got their man.

Joshua Joseph Pooli, 29, previously from Kamloops was arrested in Prince George Wednesday morning as the suspect in a pedestrian hit and run from 2016.

Cpl. Jodi Shelkie said the morning of Aug. 28, 2016, a female jogger was struck by a vehicle on West

Athabasca Street.

“The driver of the vehicle sped away without stopping or rendering assistance.

The jogger suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries. RCMP searched the area extensively and the suspect vehicle was found later that same day near the Halston Overpass. It had been stolen earlier in the morning,” said Shelkie, adding the suspect’s DNA was found inside of the vehicle but it did not match any of the samples within the National DNA Data Bank. Recently, the DNA was matched with a suspect who was from Kamloops but currently living in Prince George.

“We are very pleased that a suspect has been identified. This is a case where modern police investigative techniques, and patience, has paid off,” said Shelkie.

Pooli will be transported to Kamloops to face charges of fail to stop at scene of accident causing bodily harm, possession of stolen property and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.
