Police standoff resolved

UPDATE: 2 p.m.

A man who had barricaded himself in a Kamloops home Saturday with threats to harm himself has been successfully and safely removed. 

Kamloops RCMP negotiators and the Southeast District Emergency Response Team got the man out of his residence and transported him to a medical facility for further assessment. 

Traffic has been re-opened in the area. The Kamloops RCMP wish to thank local residents for their patience and understanding. 

"The safety of the public, and the safety of our police officers is our main priority. We are very thankful for the positive resolution of this situation," said staff sergeant Van Laer.

A man has barricaded himself inside a home in Kamloops Saturday and has threatened to harm himself.

At about 7:45 a.m., police responded to a home on Dakota Road and established a perimeter around the rural home.

RCMP negotiators have made contact with the man and the situation is still ongoing. Police have asked neighbours in the area to remain inside their homes.

The Southeast District Emergency Response Team is attending the scene. Police have not said if they believe the man is armed.
