A group of three skiers is lucky to have survived an avalanche on Sunday on Mount Tupper in Glacier National Park.
Avalanche Canada reports that on Saturday at about 3 p.m. a loose and dry avalanche was released.
“The person up front saw it coming and stepped out of the way, the two people behind were hit and flushed down the couloir,” says the report.
One person stopped after tumbling for 250 metres and the second person went 600 metres in the avalanche.
The second person went over small cliffs and as a result, broke an arm.
“The party self-rescued while a Parks Canada team was mobilizing for a rescue,” says the report.
Avalanche Canada had the danger rating for the area as moderate to low on Saturday.
