Streets flood in Kamloops

Several blocks in Kamloops have been flooded after a city water main froze and broke Thursday afternoon.

At about 5 p.m., the water main broke under the sidewalk at the northeast corner of 441 Columbia Street.

Columbia Street along with 3rd and 4th avenues were impacted by the breakage.

“City Streets crews have been working on clearing the water and ice from these streets and will continue to monitor the roads throughout the night,” said Greg Wightman, utilities services manager with the City of Kamloops.

In addition to the flooded streets, Ponderosa Lodge, a short-term adult care facility, has also been flooded.

“City crews are working through the night and the City estimates the situation will be resolved by Friday morning,” Wightman said.
