Man surrenders to police

A man has peacefully surrendered following an hours-long standoff with police Sunday.

The Kamloops RCMP and Southeast District Emergency Response Team responded to reports of a man in mental distress in the 1200 block of Schubert Drive in Kamloops at 11:45 a.m.

He barricaded himself in his home and refused to come out, threatening violence if police entered.

A police negotiator was on the scene as of 6:30 p.m. Police maintained a perimeter around the home for the safety of the neighbourhood.

At 9 p.m, the man exited and was taken to a local medical facility for observation.

The RCMP thanks the neighbourhood residents for their patience throughout the day-long operation.
