Bait cars catch two

A man was arrested Friday night in Kamloops for allegedly breaking into a bait car.

Police responded to the 500-block of Schubert Avenue after learning a bait car had been stolen.

Police tracked down a 38-year-old man nearby and found him with items that had been inside the car.

The man was arrested and has since been charged.

Last week, Kamloops police arrested a man in a similar situation.

On Jan. 29, a bait car was broken into on the 400-block of Royal Avenue, and a man was viewed inside it.

Police found and arrested the man a short time later, again with a number of items on him that had been in the bait car.

“Kamloops RCMP find the Bait Car program an effective and safe way to deal with vehicle theft and is one of many of the tools we use to combat property crime in the Kamloops area,” said Cpl. Jeff Bingley of the Kamloops RCMP.

Both men have since been released on a promise to appear before the courts.
