Serious injury in break-in

UPDATE 6:37 p.m.

A suspect in two break ins that left two men seriously injured is now facing attempted murder charges.

According Cpl. Jodi Shelkie, the unidentified suspect is facing two counts of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of break and enter and three firearms-related charges.

Kamloops RCMP have released further details about two violent home invasions in the Dallas neighbourhood Monday that sent two men to hospital, one with a serious head injury and the other with stab wounds.

A male suspect is in custody.

“Yesterday afternoon, a Kamloops citizen was returning home from work when he found an unknown male in his residence,” said Cpl. Jodi Shelkie, RCMP spokesperson. “During the course of a struggle with the suspect, the citizen received serious injuries, including lacerations to his head.”

Shelkie said the male suspect ran from this residence and broke into another nearby house.

“The homeowner was in the residence and again, there was physical confrontation with the suspect. This homeowner received stab wounds.”

The suspect was spotted by an off-duty police officer who saw him leaving the second residence. The officer gave chase, as the man ran to a third residence and climbed into a vehicle in the yard.

“This officer kept the suspect contained in the vehicle until other RCMP officers arrived on scene and arrested the suspect.”

Shelkie said the one of the victims in the case, the man who was stabbed, was released from Royal Inland Hospital last night but the other victim remains in medical care.

Police have not named the suspect, 31 and from Kamloops, but said he will go before a judge Tuesday. He was previously known to police.
