Targeted shooting kills one

One man is dead while another was rushed to hospital after a shooting in South Kamloops Thursday night.

Several people reported hearing gunshots at about 7:20 p.m. on Hudson's Bay Trail, a residential road. When police arrived, they found a man shot dead outside of a home, and another suffering from a non-fatal gunshot wound.

Two suspects fled the scene on foot, and a burning vehicle was reported 10 minutes later in Odin Court. While police say they are unsure if the vehicle and shooting are related, the location of the burning vehicle is about a 10-minute drive from where the shooting took place.

Following the high-profile fatal shooting of Jonathan Bacon in Kelowna in 2011, the getaway vehicle used in the shooting was later found torched in Lake Country

Police believe this evening's shooting was targeted, as both victims are known to police. Because of this, police say they don't believe there is a threat to the public, but warn people to stay away from Hudson's Bay Trail.

RCMP Police Dog Services, along with the serious crime unit, are actively investigating the shooting.

Police have asked anyone who witnessed the shooting or has information about the suspects to call the RCMP at 250-828-3000, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8277.
