Elephant Hill downgraded

An evacuation order for the final few properties threatened by the Elephant Hill wildfire in the Thompson Nicola region has been lifted, although residents remain on evacuation alert.

"This means that no properties in our regional district remain on evacuation order," said Debbie Sell, of the Thompson Nicola Regional District's Emergency Operations Centre.

However, the district has warned that the Elephant Hill wildfire continues to pose an imminent threat to people and property.

The BC Wildfire Service said the huge wildfire is estimated to be 192,725 hectares in size, is 70 per cent contained and remains active.

An evacuation alert remains in place for a number of properties, including:

  • 4989 North Bonaparte Road
  • 2345 Bluegoose Road
  • 5564 to 5588 Green Lake-Jim Lake Forest Service Road (FSR)
