Assaulted teen in coma

A Savona teen is in a coma at Royal Inland Hospital while the Kamloops resident accused of beating him in an altercation Sunday morning has been charged with attempted murder.

Kristopher Shaun Teichrieb, 39, was charged Monday in the incident, which took place shortly before 5 a.m. outside his residence on Holt Street.

Jessie Simpson, 19, is said to be clinging to life while a Savona neighbour has launched an online fundraising campaign on his behalf. Simpson had only recently graduated from high school.

Police said Simpson suffered life-threatening injuries in Sunday's attack.

Kamloops RCMP took Teichrieb into custody the same day. He was not previously known to police.

An investigation of the assault continues. Anyone who may have witnessed the altercation on Holt Street is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
