Kamloops RCMP have a male in custody following a rash of break and enters to businesses overnight, followed by a bait car activation that took place in the east Trans-Canada Highway area.
A 45-year-old male was arrested after stealing the bait vehicle about 6 a.m. Tuesday. The theft occurred as police were following up four break-ins between that time and 2 a.m.
Police determined the man is a suspect in at least one of those break and enters and are continuing their investigation as they process the scenes and gather evidence.
Further B&E reports were received this morning that police believe may be related to the investigation into numerous businesses struck in November, said Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Cheryl Bush.
Meanwhile, a break in at Prairie Coast Equipment on Dallas Drive Sunday evening was captured on video surveillance.
A smaller, dark-coloured SUV was observed arriving at the front gate to the business, where a male exited the driver's seat and hopped the fence. The suspect broke into the office by smashing a window with rocks and made off with laptop computers.
The suspect was wearing a dark jacket, light-coloured jeans and light-coloured runners.
This occurred just before dusk, and other vehicles could be observed passing by on the video. Police are asking anyone who may have been in the area about 5 p.m. and recalls seeing this vehicle to please contact the RCMP or call CrimeStoppers.
