It's all about paying the price

It just so happens I live in a world of people looking for short cuts.
You know the ones, “I am going to do what you did without putting in so much effort!”
It is a tiring line to hear and the results are more often than not very predictable.
I am totally excited about innovative technologies, systems and disruptive processes that have the chance to change the way we do business. At Dutch Oracle, our Venture Developer work is centered around innovative and progressive ideas.
So often though, people try and short cut the system and it doesn’t take long before they realize that there are very few shortcuts in life that get you to the same destination. There is a difference between working smart and stupidity.
Anything that I have approached in life has been built upon hard work before the smart work starts to take hold. In years gone by, we would have toiled in the fields, mines and factories to get a foothold on life. Today the working environment has changed, but the necessity to work hard has not. To this day, I could not tell you which weekend is a long weekend. I have no clue unless I have employees who do not show up for work! I have no recollection of the last day I took off from work because frankly, there hasn’t been one for over 25 years!
There are so many circumstances where we need to evaluate not only an opportunity but a relationship to determine if we are willing to pay the price. Whether it is my activities in my marriage, the Army Reserves, my businesses or adventures - I want to know that I can count on the people beside me and of course they are viewing the world through the same pair of glasses.
I can honestly say in every facet of my life I have been blessed to have found people who are willing to work hard, stay focused and if the proverbial hits the fan - dig out.
Those relationships don’t come from looking for short cuts, they come from an apprenticeship, time on the job. They become stronger in the troughs of the waves not the crests of success.
Recognize that you will build more value in your projects and relationships if you are always willing to go the extra mile.
