Blossom Time Fair ends

The Auxiliaries to KGH Foundation thank our friends, families, Cottonwoods Care Centre staff and residents, as well as dozens of volunteers for all their hard work, enthusiasm, and good nature, without which the final Blossom Time Fair would not have been a success. Hundreds of people enjoyed the festivities and the beautiful sunny day Friday, May 10 at Cottonwoods Care Centre.

Despite regrets that this longstanding tradition has come to an end, and regardless of long waits at the BBQ and Plant sales, everyone was in a festive mood. People of all ages enjoyed music and dancing from Larry Branson’s Roy Orbison tribute, and the Old Time Fiddlers, and Zumba and Peruvian Folk Dancing by Roxana Horna and friends.

Organized and hosted by the Auxiliaries to the KGH Foundation, including the 90-year-old Kelowna Auxiliary, Blossom Time Fair has raised over $220,000 over the last 22 years that have funded patient care and comfort enhancements at many Interior Health facilities. This year’s top project is to furnish a comfortable room at KGH Intensive Care Unit for families to rest or stay overnight when their loved ones are in crisis situations. Curtains to block off areas of the Cottonwoods dining room to provide a private space for family or special events will also be provided.

With 67 years of tradition the event has certainly had a significant positive impact on patient care throughout the Central Okanagan.
