Donation to valuable use

With the din of summer receding and accounts finally reconciled, the Downtown Penticton Association presented a $1500 donation cheque to Okanagan Similkameen Neurological Society (OSNS) Child & Youth Development Centre, which will be directed to programs and services and Penticton’s families who need them.

The OSNS Child & Youth Development Centre supports children with behavioural and developmental challenges. Last year the Centre saw over 1,400 young people from around the region. Since 1978, the Centre has been dedicated to supporting families in the South Okanagan and Similkameen through early intervention and family centered care.

“Selecting OSNS as our fundraising partner and beneficiary was an easy decision,” said Lynn Allin, DPA executive director. “For any family that’s been touched by the Centre’s dedicated staff or needed their specialized programs, the value of OSNS is difficult to describe. This donation is one small way of acknowledging the important work that OSNS so quietly performs in our community.” The donation funds were raised through the Canada Day pancake breakfast. Several volunteers and local business generously provided groceries, materials and equipment including IGA, Summerland Sweets, Penticton Legion-Branch 40, Boyd Autobody & Glass and Smart Shopper.

“We really appreciated the support of local businesses and the DPA,” said Meg Dimma, OSNS community engagement coordinator. “The sponsor’s contributions allowed us to keep costs to eat very low, granting wider community access. This aligns with our Centre’s core values of ensuring accessibility and removing service barriers for those in need.”
