motionball back this year

motionball and Interior Savings Credit Union are teaming up once again to bring motionball Marathon of Sport to the Okanagan this September. Taking place in Kelowna’s City Park, this popular social sporting event is expected to surpass its 2017 record fundraising total of $105,000.

With 100 per cent of proceeds going to the Special Olympic Canada Foundation, this fun-filled fundraiser is making an impact locally and across Canada, helping individuals with intellectual diversabilities realize their dreams and feel a part of a team.

“This year is our 7th year running motionball Kelowna,” states co-event director, Derek Fuhr. “The Special Olympic athletes who participate each year are happy be a part of a community that believes in them. We couldn’t be more proud to know that each year the Okanagan is increasing our support of this important cause.”

As the presenting sponsor, Interior Savings CEO, Kathy Conway, is happy to be supporting the event for another year.

“motionball Kelowna brings people together for greater good, it fosters a sense of belonging and inspires young people to give back to their community,” says Conway. “We have a large crew of employees who register every year because it’s known to be a ton of fun but also because those who participate say they feel a real sense of purpose and connection to the people they’re trying to help.”

The Special Olympics movement provides opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities to be a part of a community and overcome challenges they never thought possible. Programs across Canada help build resilience, confidence, and problem solving skills, which make a difference in all aspects of the athletes’ lives, including their likelihood to work.

On average there are 800,000 Canadians who have intellectual disabilities. Of those, Special Olympics athletes are five times more likely to work than adults who are not enrolled in Special Olympics.
