Caring companies give

The Pushor Mitchell United Way Day of Caring® was a great success last week. This year, 112 volunteers from 6 companies tackled 19 projects for 11 charities in the Central and South Okanagan on May 4 and May 6. The largest team was from Pushor Mitchell Lawyers who shut down their office to send 92 employees out into the community. In total, 336 volunteer hours were provided to community agencies saving over $5000 in staffing and resource costs.

“What an incredible effort by all the local companies who sent out staff to volunteer,” said Helen Jackman, Executive Director of United Way CSO. “Our community partners are so appreciative and the collective effort makes such a difference to their bottom line. “

The Pushor Mitchell United Way Day of Caring® is an annual community-wide event where United Way coordinates teams of volunteers from the local area and matches them with projects at local charities. Volunteer teams take on light construction, gardening and maintenance tasks while gaining behind-the-scenes insight into the work of local non-profit agencies. Multiple projects are completed resulting in hundreds of hours invested in just one day. United Way also organizes custom days of caring throughout the year.
