This past week, Melcor Developments Ltd. presented the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign with a $9,123 donation raised through their local community charitable events in 2017.
The "big cheque" was presented at Prospera Place where a local ATOM B Junior Rockets team - the Kelowna Buckaroos - won the opportunity to skate with their hockey hero's. The fun match-up was originally scheduled in January at Melcor's BlueSky at Black Mountain outdoor rink but had to be cancelled due to above freezing temperatures.
"The YMCA of Okanagan is doing great work in our community and we are proud to support them," says Andrew Bruce, Melcor Developments Ltd. Regional Manager, Kelowna. "We are committed to building communities that enrich quality of life - communities where people live, work, shop and play and the Y helps to keep these communities healthier, more connected, and ultimately stronger. We are also extremely proud of the funds raised by our home owners, staff and individuals like Jack Newton who hosts an annual golf tournament at Black Mountain in support of Strong Kids."
"We are so grateful for the continued support and generosity from Melcor Developments," exclaims Rhonda Zakala, GM of Fund Development at the YMCA of Okanagan. "The income inequality gap in Kelowna is widening with at least one in five children living in poverty. Melcor has provided hundreds of low-income children and families with an equal opportunity to be healthy in mind, spirit and body through YMCA child care and programs."

This generous donation will give local underprivileged children the opportunity to participate in Y programs they would otherwise not be able to afford, such as child care, camps and athletics.
