Ferrell To Sign Deal

  • New Line Cinema is (still) in negotiations to sign what's likely to be a very lucrative deal for Will Ferrell to star in Elf 2. According to company bigwigs, "We're only going to make this if it's with Will." That deal could earn Ferrell a guaranteed $20 million-plus (against gross points.) F.Y.I. The original Elf grossed $220 million worldwide.
  • Viewers liked Jamie Foxx's acceptance speech so much at Sunday's Academy Awards that they watched it over and over. His best actor win for Ray is the Oscar moment most replayed by TiVo subscribers. The company says the best-picture win by Clint Eastwood's Million Dollar Baby was the second most-replayed moment. The red-carpet shots most ogled were Cate Blanchett and Kate Winslet's arrivals.
  • Maroon 5 has always been strict about not revealing the origin of the band's name, but they told London's Radio 1 they've slipped the secret to a veteran musical peer. The band admitted: "I'm sorry but that's the one question we won't answer, and it's a big secret and no one knows - except Billy Joel. Billy Joel knows the origin of the name - I broke the oath with him because he's Billy Joel. So, you guys better talk to him about that." Whatever..
  • The first season of "Desperate Housewives" will be out on DVD on September 20. Bonus goodies include an alternate ending to the season finale, unrated extended episodes, a Wisteria Lane fashion show and more.
  • 20th Century Fox says they're ready to roll out the trailer for the next "Star Wars" film during the Mar 10 episode of "The O-C." The trailer will be in movie theatres the next day before showings of the movie, "Robots." The movie itself --"Star Wars: Episode III--Revenge of the Sith" will debut in theatres May 19.
