Ashlee Simpson Lip Syncs

SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR may have a grudge, but moviegoers don't mind. Her new horror flick, The Grudge, debuted atop the box office with a frightening total of 40-million dollars. Shark Tale, which had been the number-one film the last three weeks, slipped to second-place. The weekend's other new release proves one thing: BEN AFFLECK may be on his way to becoming the new KEVIN COSTNER, in that they both used to make hit movies, but now seem to be allergic to success. Affleck's Surviving Christmas opened in seventh place with four-and-a-half-million dollars. That barely edged out Affleck's Gigli, which took in 3.8-million dollars when it opened last year.

The Carousel of Hope Gala was held Saturday night in Beverly Hills. A slew of celebrities showed up to attend the event, which raised more than six-million dollars to research children’s diabetes. Oprah Winfrey presented the coveted “Brass Ring Award” to Academy Award-winning actress Halle Berry.

Pop tart Ashlee Simpson may have accidentally revealed that she's taken up lip-synching her live performances. It happened over the weekend on "Saturday Night Live" when she took the stage for her second performance of the night. Simpson started to move to the music, then suddenly, her hit single "Pieces Of Me" started playing. That's the song she performed earlier in the night.

Even worse, her voice could be heard, but she wasn't singing, keeping the microphone at her side. The embarrassed singer left the stage about 30 seconds later, then they cut to a commercial. At the end of the show, Simpson apologized and blamed her band. Her record company blamed a computer glitch.
