
Kirstie Alley, Emmy-award winning actress, died Monday.
Alley, 71, died of cancer that was very recently discovered, according to a statement posted to her Twitter account.
"We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered," the statement said.
"She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead."
Alley starred as Rebecca Howe on the NBC sitcom Cheers from 1987 to 1993, winning an Emmy for the role.
