Kanye West has opened up on the strain his failed 2020 presidential bid put on his marriage.
The rapper went up against incumbent POTUS Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump but failed to garner any significant support.
Reflecting on his foray into politics in a "Thanksgiving prayer," Kanye spoke candidly about his strained relationship with estranged wife Kim Kardashian, who was particularly bothered by his South Carolina press conference, where he claimed they'd considered aborting now eight-year-old daughter North.
"Let's go with politics here. Good Lord, my wife did not like me wearing the red hat. Being a good wife, (Kim) wanted to protect me and our family,' said West, who famously wore a 'Make America Great Again' during Trump's presidency.
He continued: "I made me and our family a target by not aligning with Hollywood's political stance and that was hard for our marriage.
"Then I ran for president without proper preparation and no allies on either side. I embarrassed my wife in the way that I presented information about our family during the one and only, thank God, press conference.
"All my dad had to say afterward was, "write your speech next time son."
Following the July 2020 press conference, Kim opened up on her husband's mental health and attributed his actions to his bi-polar diagnosis, sharing: "Anyone who has this or has a loved one in their life who does, knows how incredibly complicated and painful it is to understand.
"I've never spoken publicly about how this has affected us at home because I am very protective of our children and Kanye's right to privacy when it comes to his health. But today, I feel like I should comment on it because of the stigma and misconceptions about mental health," her statement concluded.
