Ridley Scott is turning his acclaimed sci-fi films Blade Runner and Alien into live-action TV series.
The prolific producer and director confirmed the two projects are in the works during a BBC interview, adding he has already created the "bible," which establishes characters, settings, and background information for the series, based on the 1982 Harrison Ford film.
"We're already into having written the pilot for Blade Runner and the bible, so we're already presenting Blade Runner as a TV show," he said.
The original Blade Runner, set in a dystopian future Los Angeles in 2019, featured Ford as a policeman hunting down rebel replicants. The actor returned for Denis Villeneuve's sequel, Blade Runner 2049, in 2017. An anime series, called Blade Runner: Black Lotus, premiered Nov. 14 on Adult Swim.
"And then Alien is a similar thing. Alien is now being written for pilot," Ridley said of another new spin on one of his classic films, which launched in 1979, starring Sigourney Weaver.
News of the Alien series was first announced in December 2020, with Legion creator Noah Hawley attached as a showrunner.
FX chairman John Landgraf described the project as "the first Alien story set on Earth," adding "It's going to be a scary thrill ride that will blow people back in their seats."
