Empire star Bryshere Gray was arrested for domestic violence on Monday following an alleged prolonged assault on his wife.
The 26-year-old actor, best known for playing Hakeem Lyon on the Fox series, was booked for felony aggravated assault (strangulation), misdemeanor assault (domestic violence), and misdemeanor disorderly conduct after Sunday's incident, according to TMZ.
The website reported that police officers responded to a call for help on Sunday night, after Gray's wife was able to get a good samaritan to help her. Upon arriving at the couple's house in Arizona, she told officers that Gray had "assaulted her for several hours at their home". She also alleged Gray strangled her for so long that she lost consciousness.
She was taken to a nearby hospital, where cops were informed of "numerous visible injuries on her body."
When police got in contact with Gray, he is said to have refused to leave the house. A standoff with SWAT officers then ensued, after which the actor finally surrendered to police at around 7 a.m. Monday morning.
"Goodyear Detectives and Victim's Advocate continued to assist her after her discharge from the hospital," officers at the Goodyear Police Department wrote on Facebook in a post accompanied by Gray's mugshot.
