Hanks 'not great, but OK'

Tom Hanks is "not great, but OK" as he continues to recover from the coronavirus, his sister Sandra has revealed.

The 63-year-old actor and his wife Rita Wilson were both diagnosed with the Covid-19 virus while in Australia, where Tom had been shooting Baz Luhrmann's Elvis Presley biopic. They were initially treated in hospital, but have since moved to a rented house where they have self-quarantined as they continue their recovery.

While Tom's social media updates amid his illness have been few and far between, his sister Sandra Hanks Benoiton offered an update to the Daily Mail Online.

"I have communicated with my brother. He's not great, but still okay," she said. "(Am I) shocked? No. He's an actor, not a god (but) medical care in Australia is good."

Sandra, Tom's eldest sibling, currently lives in Italy, after moving there in 2016. The European country is one of the epicentres of the pandemic, and she's been in lockdown in her house in Pordenone province - about an hour north of Venice.

"We're OK here... staying home is fine with us, and this community is wonderful," she said of their quarantine. "I'm lucky to be here, the spirit of the people is amazing! The U.S. and the U.K. are failing miserably, however."
