Own Superman's cape

The cape worn by Christopher Reeve in the original 1978 movie Superman and the pipe smoked by Bilbo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring are expected to fetch hundreds of thousands at auction.

Going up for sale by Julien's Auctions, the Superman cape was worn by Reeve in director Richard Donner's classic flick, and is one of six that were used in the film.

It was previously given away to fans as part of a worldwide contest to promote the film, and comes with a photo of Reeve choosing the winner, a letter from DC Comics' President as well as the Editor and Publisher and more, with the lot expected to sell between $100,000 and $200,000 .

Meanwhile, the pipe used by Ian Holm's character is the first of its kind to be auctioned off and comes with a letter supporting its authenticity.

According to the note from animation supervisor Randall William Cook, director Peter Jackson gifted the pipe to him for his 50th birthday, but now he's getting rid of it because he's given up tobacco. It is expected to sell for between $100,000 and $120,000.

Other iconic items up for auction include the Starfleet costume worn by William Shatner in the 1982 film Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan, a motorcycle owned by Steve McQueen, and the jumpsuit worn by Dan Aykroyd in the 1984 classic Ghostbusters.

The auction will be held Dec. 17 in California.
